Rosslyn Chapel Summer Drama School

May 1, 2025
Calling all budding Midlothian actors! Rosslyn Chapel is offering a free summer drama school, between 4 and 8 August this year, for children aged 9 to 12.
The drama summer school will consist of a one-week intensive drama experience finishing with a performance of an original short play, based on the story of Rosslyn Chapel, with scenes devised by the children themselves. The play will be a historical and sci-fi fantasy story in which each child will have their own character and speaking role. Drama experience is not necessary but an interest in drama and performing would be helpful. The week will be run by two experienced drama facilitators, Douglas Roberts, a playwright and director who specialises in working with children and young people, and Sarah Chapman who is Learning and Outreach Co-ordinator at Rosslyn Chapel and has led several drama projects in collaboration with Douglas.
Sarah Chapman said: ‘All support, tuition, costumes and props needed for the roles will be provided. This is a brand new initiative for us and our emphasis will be on creative fun and working together to produce the performance.’
The week will start with introductory visit to Rosslyn Chapel, followed by rehearsals at the British Legion Hall in Roslin (a 5-minute walk from the Chapel). The final performance for family and friends will take place on the evening of 8th August at Rosslyn Chapel.
To apply for a place, or to find out more, please email learning@rosslynchapel.com and please note the deadline for applications is Friday 30th May 2025.
