John Kitchen Recital: British Organ Music

A programme of British organ music chosen to display the strengths and special qualities of the organ at Rosslyn Chapel. A 1872 Hamilton Organ, it was restored by Lammermuir Pipe Organs in 2011 following the restoration of the Chapel. Music by Gibbons, Handel, Stanley, Russell and others.

Fantazia of foure parts – Orlando Gibbons (1583–1625)

Voluntary in D minor Op. 5,  no. 8 – John Stanley (1712–1786)

Two voluntaries – William Russell (1777–1813)

Lesson III in D (1756) – Elizabeth Turner (1730-1756)

Andante in E flat major – Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810–1876)

Praeludium in E – Francis Jackson (1917–2022)

Four movements from the Water Music – George Frideric Handel (1685–1759)

 

John Kitchen MBE is a Scottish organist, conductor, early music scholar, and music educator based in Edinburgh. He serves as the Edinburgh City Organist with duties at the Usher Hall. He is University Organist and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the Edinburgh University Singers. He is also Director of Music at Old Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Profits from this concert will support the music programme at Roslin Primary School.
