Early spring clean for Chapel’s stained glass windows

Winter may still be here but some early spring cleaning has been undertaken to the Chapel’s stained glass windows.

Nineteen windows at ground level in the Chapel have been cleaned this week by specialist staff from Scottish Glass Studios, in Glasgow. Most of the stained glass windows were designed by Clayton and Bell, of London, and installed between 1867 and 1887, although some were added later.

Mark Bambrough, of Scottish Glass Studios, said ‘Given that the stained glass windows at Rosslyn Chapel have unstable painted surfaces, it is important to clean the stained glass because surface dust and detritus holds moisture which can cause further decay.’
