St Andrew’s Day Visit for Local MP

Among the visitors welcomed to Rosslyn Chapel today, St Andrew’s Day, was Midlothian MP, David Hamilton.

During his visit, Mr Hamilton toured the Chapel and Visitor Centre and met members of staff. He also joined a group of local children enjoying the St Andrew’s Day storytelling and craft event, which was the first of Rosslyn Chapel’s ‘Festive Fridays’ programme. For the next three Fridays in December (7th, 14th and 21st), Rosslyn Chapel will host further Christmas craft and storytelling events, begining at 1pm. Full details are on the Chapel’s website at www.rosslynchapel.com

Mr Hamilton also heard about other plans for the Christmas season at the Chapel including an evening of readings and carols, accompanied by the MacTaggart Scott Loanhead Band – called ‘Christmas by Candlelight’ – which takes place on Sunday 16th December at 6:30pm and is open to everyone in the community to attend. Further services will take place on Sunday 23rd December at 10:30am (Christingle service and Eucharist), Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve at 11:30pm and Christmas Day Eucharist at 10:30am.

The Chapel and Visitor Centre will be closed to visitors on 24th and 25th December but will reopen with a Boxing Day treasure hunt, when visitors can follow a trail of clues and questions to try and win a prize.

Ian Gardner, Director of Rosslyn Chapel Trust, said ‘We are delighted to welcome Mr Hamilton back to Rosslyn Chapel, one of the iconic attractions of Midlothian, today and bring him up-to-date with the Trust’s work here. The Chapel has already welcomed thousands of visitors this year and we are looking forward to a busy period over the next few weeks in the lead up to Christmas’.
